“I have had the pleasure of working with Chirag on several large and complicated dam safety projects over the past 8 years. Chirag’s organization, experience, thoroughness, and dedication stand out as key characteristics in his work. He is particularly proficient at risk assessment, cost estimating, and schedule management. I’ve witnessed Chirag coordinate very long and involved environmental and regulatory permitting efforts successfully for several projects. Chirag is also an incredible leader and efficiently manages projects with multiple stakeholders and several technical disciplines.”

From the Owner
I am Chirag Mehta, founder of Nimble Minds Consulting. I bring over two decades of experience and a profound understanding of the utility sector’s unique challenges. My mission is to guide utilities through the complexities of infrastructure management, ensuring their projects meet current demands and contribute to a sustainable future.
A Journey of Passion and Purpose
Born and raised in India, I spent my early years surrounded by a culture that values both tradition and innovation. In 2005, my journey took a pivotal turn when I moved to the United States to pursue a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Southern California, following my undergraduate studies in India.
Finding My Path in Water Infrastructure
Following my education, I worked at Tetra Tech, where I had the opportunity to work on some of the nation’s most critical infrastructure projects, focusing on navigation locks, dams, and flood control facilities that are vital to our nation’s economy, power, and safety. This move marked the beginning of my deep dive into the world of infrastructure development.
I obtained my Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the states of Washington and California, as well as Project Management Professional (PMP) and Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) certifications from the Project Management Institute.
My career then led me to Black & Veatch, where I worked closely with utilities on the U.S. West Coast. My focus shifted more and more toward dams and hydroelectric projects, a field that has not only aligned with my experience but also with my growing commitment to renewable energy.
Aging Infrastructure & Project Execution Challenges
With experience on projects exceeding $10 billion, I have observed firsthand the significant challenges in maintaining our infrastructure, which is in dire need of repair or replacement. As more infrastructure rapidly exceeds its service life, budgeting and prioritizing projects have become increasingly difficult. Through my extensive experience in engineering and project management, I have seen the costs of these repairs escalate to several hundred million to several billion dollars. Aging infrastructure is not only a national concern but also a global issue affecting every community, igniting a deep passion within me to be part of the solution.
The Resolution – A Commitment to Sustainable Energy
My passion for dams and hydroelectric projects stems from a deep conviction that humanity’s future hinges on renewable energy sources. While solar and wind power are becoming increasingly popular, I have always regarded hydroelectric power as an underappreciated asset in our energy strategy. Dams possess an unparalleled ability to store water, protect against floods, and generate electricity in a sustainable and reliable manner. My career has been driven by a desire to assist utility owners in managing and expanding their hydro projects in a manner that is both sustainable and forward-thinking.
